This is David Powner's first production ever, but it sounds like the work of an old pro. Cindy Scott's voice has elements of surprise and excitement similar to those of Chaka Khan. This jamming CD contains uplifting soul and Motown remakes accented by phat bass beats, spirited lead singing, and strong backing vocals featuring Scott and Vera Carey chirping like love birds. On Remember Me, an awesome bass and hi-hat cymbal smashes provide an unforgettable backbeat. Her infectious vocals take Linda Clifford's Runaway Love to new heights, while well-executed horn hits and synthesizer runs cloud above a mean, intimidating beat. Otis Redding's I've Been Loving You Too Long gets a 360-degree rearrangement that has to be heard to be believed. My personal favorite is the sweet, coy If It Was Me, -- a convincing, heartfelt beat-ballad that tugs at your heart. You will mothball Jackie Moore's Precious, Precious after hearing Scott's version, and she does an incredible job on Stevie Wonder's Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) as well. Don't get turned off by the remakes; they're often better than the originals here. Ian Levine could have used Powner's expertise on his Motorcity project. Thirteen delightful tracks include an extended remix of Remember Me, a sweet reprise of Runaway Love, a scrump country/soul ballad Don't Let My Teardrops Bother You, and a better-than-ever version of Smokey Robinson and Ivy Hunter's Loving Country. ~ Andrew Hamilton, Rovi
