Perhaps unbeknownst to casual fans of Peter Bjorn and John's Peter Morén who don't live in his native country of Sweden, he released two fine solo records sung entirely in Swedish and chock-full of his trusty songcraft and expressive vocals. 2010's I Spåren Av Tåren and 2012's Pyramiden each feature Morén dipping his toes into a more classic rock approach, with rich instrumentation and songs that travel from point A to point B without any arty distraction. Both are worth seeking out in the original format, but this EP, which collects three songs from Pyramiden and one from I Spåren Av Tåren, is a nice entry point for anyone who missed out initially, and wants to hear the songs sung in English since Morén took the original backing tracks and swapped out one language for the other. Frankly, it doesn't matter what language he sings in, his passion and feverish intensity come across apart from the words. So does his unerring way arranging songs in an always-interesting way, and making sure they're adorned with impossible-to-avoid hooks. Whether charging through breathless tracks like "Constant Reaction," emoting on a late-night ballad ("Going Places") that would have been a stand-out cut on a mid-'70s Elton John album, or laying back in the melancholy cut on the achingly sad "Say My Name," the songs here hit hard and stick. Just like everything Morén has done since he burst on the indie rock scene with PB and J, really. This EP is a nice bonus for his English-speaking fans, but mostly serves as a wake-up call to anyone who has slept on his recent solo work. One quick spin of this will show listeners what a huge mistake that was, and should inspire a big bump in sales for both solo albums excerpted here. ~ Tim Sendra, Rovi
