This ten-song mixtape brings together Compton chart-topper YG with Sacramento counterpart Mozzy, the two California rappers playing off each other's strengths on tracks that stay mainly in a high gear. Kommunity Service is front-loaded with its most immediate tracks, hitting the ground running with "Gangsta," a smart and steely revisitation of the instrumental for 50 Cent's 2002 hit "Wanksta." Mozzy and YG use the familiar beat as a launchpad for new intensity, updating the understated cool of the original with an exhilarating, in-your-face delivery. G Herbo guests on the sinister bounce of "Dangerous," and "Bompton to Oak Park" is quintessential West Coast rap, matching tough and sun-dazed flows from the rappers with an instrumental made up of rubbery synth-funk bass lines and speaker-rattling drums. Things slow down with the pop-minded "Vibe with You," but ramp back up with the Tyga-featuring banger "Took It Up" and the relentless push of "First 48." Although Kommunity Service is short, it still shows versatility by approaching various styles track to track.
