Born in Calcutta, India, in 1954, Bechirian took piano lessons as a child. His family relocated to England when he was ten. Bechirian began developing his future production skills using his father's tape recorder to edit music recorded from the family TV. He would read the back of album jackets to find out who did what as far as engineering.
Later, Bechirian took some college classes in electronics. In 1972, he began working at a four-track recording studio. After hours, Bechirian would sneak his musician friends into the studio to record. When the studio moved to a new location to build a 24-track studio, Bechirian picked up tips.
In 1974, Bechirian met Stiff Records founders Jake Rivera and Dave Robinson and began mixing project for the label whose artist roster listed Nick Lowe, Lene Lovich, and Elvis Costello. He slowly evolved into a producer. Bechirian plays with Warner Bros. act Blanket of Secrecy.
