Formed in Chino, California in 2009, the quartet of siblings originally featured lead singer Sydney Sierota, guitarist/vocalist Jamie Sierota, bassist/vocalist Noah Sierota, and drummer Graham Sierota. Growing up, the kids were encouraged to pursue music from a young age by their father, songwriter and producer Jeffery David. By their teens they were writing songs together, taking inspiration from classic groups like the Echo the Bunnymen and the Cure, as well as contemporary acts like the Killers and Coldplay. They eventually signed to Warner Bros. and in 2013 released their debut full-length album, Talking Dreams. Thanks to the Top 15 placement of the single "Cool Kids," the album reached the Top 40 in the U.S. and charted in ten other countries. Also in 2013, they joined Owl City on tour and played the Vans Warped Tour. In the middle of 2014, Echosmith returned with the five-song EP Acoustic Dreams, which featured acoustic reworkings of cuts from Talking Dreams.
In 2015, the quartet toured with Twenty One Pilots and the Colourist. Also that year, they contributed vocals to the Zedd track "Illusion." Around this time, Jamie parted ways with the band to focus on raising his child and to work on his own creative projects. With his departure, the Sierotas decided to continue as a trio. In 2017, they issued the singles "Goodbye" and "Future World" from Inside a Dream, a seven-song EP issued just months before An Echosmith Christmas, which featured Hunter Hayes on their cover of "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." The "Over My Head" single arrived in 2018. In January 2020, Echosmith returned with their sophomore full-length album, Lonely Generation. Produced by their father and longtime collaborator Jeffery David, the album found the band further balancing their '80s dance-rock influences with a modern pop sophistication. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
