Biography
Born Mackenzie Johnson in San Luis Obispo, California in 1990, MAKJ DJs and produces epic trance-flavored EDM and progressive house. He started DJ'ing as a teenager, while he was living in China pursuing a career as a racecar driver. He returned to America at age 17, and began spinning at college parties. He learned how to scratch from the late DJ AM. Johnson began releasing original tracks and remixes around 2012. Johnson had a banner year in 2013, as he released several singles on labels such as Doorn Records, Juicy Music, and Hysteria, including successful collaborations with Hardwell ("Countdown") and Henry Fong ("Encore"). He toured with Bingo Players and Bassjackers, and performed at major EDM festivals such as the Ultra Music Festival in Miami and TomorrowWorld in Georgia. In 2014 he released the singles "Let's Get F*cked Up" with Lil Jon and "Derp" with Bassjackers, and toured Europe and North America. He appeared on DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs list for 2014.
