Michel Blavet
from Besancon, France
March 13, 1700 - October 28, 1768 (age 68)
Biography
Works attributed to this French flutist and composer include stage works, sonatas and concertos and a number of arrangements for dances. Blavet was self-taught and was highly lauded for the voice-like quality of his tones, his ability to remain strictly on tune, and his marvellous technical capabilities. Voltaire, Marpurg and Telemann were among his admirers. The French violin sonata style was successfully transformed in Balvet's sonatas for the flute. In the restructuring of the French arioso recitative style (used since Lully) to the Italian recitative style, Blavet was uniquely instrumental and successful as well. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
