Biography
Portland's synth-core outfit Point Line Plane features singer/keyboardist Josh Blanchard, drummer Nathan Carson, and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Howard Gillam. Blanchard has also played with the Sensualists, Mome Raths, and the Kremlin Bronx; Carson is a member of Witch Mountain, and Gillam also performs as Supersprite. The group began as a duo, with Blanchard and Carson's mix of no wave noise and old-school analog synths recalling bands like Trans Am as well as Numbers and Experimental Dental School, both whom have performed with Point Line Plane. A split EP with the Planet The on Mountastic Records (also the home of Witch Mountain) laid the groundwork for Point Line Plane's full-length, self-titled debut, which arrived in summer 2003. Gillam joined the band during their tour supporting that album, and the band rounded out the year with a 7" on S-S Records and appearances on a Fort Hazel Magic compilation, and a Screamers tribute album from Xeroid/Extravertigo. With new member Gillam aboard, Point Line Plane's Smoke Signals saw release on Skin Graft in Fall of 2004. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
