Biography
Formed in 2008 by Fresh Onlys backup singers Grace Cooper and Heidi Alexander, along with drummer Roxy Brodeur of Pillars of Silence, San Francisco-based lo-fi pop trio the Sandwitches blend world-weary folk, '60s girl group swagger, and infectious, Fleetwood Mac-inspired indie pop into a sound that's part gothic theater and part front-porch singalong. The band released its debut album, How to Make Ambient Sad Cake, on the Turn Up label in 2009, followed by the Duck, Duck, Goose! EP in 2010. During the tour supporting the Ambient Sad Cake album, Brodeur took a sabbatical from the group, and Lance Kramer of the Beat Cops took over as drummer in her absence. Brodeur returned in time to play on the Sandwitches' sophomore full-length, Mrs. Jones' Cookies, released in the spring of 2011. The group continued to tour, both as a headliner and as support for fellow San Franciscans Thee Oh Sees and Sonny the Sunsets, and in June 2015 the Sandwitches dropped album number three, Our Toast. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
