Biography
A true showman, Grandmixer D.ST (also known as D.ST and D.XT) was not only one of the most precise DJs and record scratchers of the '80s, but also one of the most entertaining to watch. Re-inventing the normally static stage approach DJs took to their occupation (the job doesn't allow much movement anyway), D.ST transformed the medium with a bag of tricks that included jumping out onto the dancefloor, breakdancing, and even mixing records with his foot. All this caught the attention of the influential Afrika Bambaataa, who employed D.ST as a DJ for his famous parties in the late '70s. D.ST also showed he was skilled at production as well when, in 1983, he worked with Herbie Hancock on the hit Rockit. D.ST is also known for his work with the Infinity Rappers, an MC troupe that he organized and recorded with on Celluloid Records. In later years he moved into production work, most notably on King Tee's IV Life album. ~ Steve Kurutz, Rovi
