Giles first came to the attention of many in the EDM scene when, five years after they met, Skrillex remembered her and joined her on-stage at Bonnaroo in June 2014. Shortly after, she won a mixing contest run by Black Butter Records that resulted in an appearance at the TomorrowWorld Festival in Atlanta that September. A month later, she relocated to Los Angeles, and Mija had a full schedule of touring and festival appearances lined up by 2015, including a DJ set at Coachella. That same year, she collaborated with Ghastly for the track "Crank It" featuring Lil Jon. It was released on Skrillex's OWSLA label. While building her reputation on-stage, Giles also launched a multi-genre live event, FK A GENRE, curated by Mija, and started a fashion brand called Made by Mija. She also released a series of remixes and mixtapes.
Featuring singles including 2017's "Bad for U" (featuring Kelli Schaefer) and "Notice Me," her official debut EP, How to Measure the Distance Between Lovers, arrived in early 2018 on her own never_b_alone.mp3 imprint. An emotive downtempo collection inspired by heartbreak and heartache, it added the identity of singer/songwriter to her growing résumé. The more minimalist, raw two-track EP, Just Enough, arrived in September of that year. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
