Biography
The host of a popular radio shows on BBC's #Radio 1 and #Radio 4, Andy Kershaw has played an important role in the growing popularity of world music in the United Kingdom. Although he was initially hired as a rock deejay, Kershaw has increasingly incorporated blues, folk, country & western and African music into his programming.

An enthusiastic record collector, Kershaw bought his first record, Slade's Mama, We're All Crazee Now, in 1972. Hard rock and heavy metal continued to be his prime focus until a recording by Bob Dylan inspired him to seek more roots-oriented music. His interests in African music were sparked by a Bhundu Boys recording. Despite his fascination with non-mainstream music though, Kershaw continues to share his musical discoveries with his listening audience. In a 1998 interview he admitted, "I find it amazing that I'm still here." ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
