Biography
Jeppe Senior Laursen was one-half of over the top Danish pop duo Junior Senior -- the latter half, to be precise; he was the tall gay counterpart to pint-sized straight man Jesper Junior Mortensen. When the group disbanded in September 2008 after a decade of bringing cheer to dancefloors worldwide, and after a pair of albums that met, respectively, with widespread success and frustrating label setbacks, both members already had new projects in the works. In Laursen's case, his solo bow came with a cover of Fine Young Cannibals' Johnny Come Home in April 2008, followed by the anthemic original Big Boy that October; both signaled a more muscular approach that was slightly less giddy than Junior Senior's gleeful frivolity (though not necessarily less exuberantly danceable), with a heavily '80s-indebted sensibility paying tribute to Laursen's heroes Marc Almond and Depeche Mode. Based intermittently in Berlin, Los Angeles, and Korsbaek, Denmark, Laursen spent much of this period traveling the world, DJing, collecting vintage electronic musical gear, and working on tracks with friends. In January 2009, Jeppe's song Lucky Boy -- slated to be his first official release -- was selected as a finalist to represent Denmark in that year's Eurovision contest. ~ K. Ross Hoffman, Rovi
