Biography
New York-based trumpeter, vocalist, arranger, and bandleader Bob Merrill is an in-demand performer known for his straight-ahead jazz and standards style. Raised in Manhattan, Merrill had early jazz training studying with legendary trumpeter Red Rodney. After high school, he attended both Harvard and the New England Conservatory, eventually teaching jazz as a fellow at Harvard. Returning to New York in 1986, Merrill opened his own studio, where he split his time producing music for television commercials and hosting recording sessions for such luminaries as Sting, Patti LaBelle, and others. Also during this time, he worked as musical director for his uncle, pianist Joe Bushkin. In 1997, Merrill released his debut album, Catch as Catch Can, followed by Got a Bran' New Suit in 2005. A regular performer, Merrill has appeared around the country and been featured with the Philadelphia Pops, the Nassau Pops, and the Boston Pops. In 2015, Merrill released his fourth solo album, Cheerin' Up the Universe. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
