Pedro Sorongo

					Biography

Pedro Sorongo, or Pedro da Lua, was a ritmista (kind of percussionist who keeps the beat) who was very popular among the best choro groups in the '50s. He participated in many albums recorded by Jacob do Bandolim, and also recorded with Baden Powell, among other masters. He invented instruments like the sorongo, the bambu eletrônico (electronic bamboo), the berimbau de boca (mouth berimbau), and many others. As a composer, he wrote pieces in which he could explore the characteristic sound of his creations. He can be heard on the albums recorded by Época de Ouro for Continental in the '70s and on Waldir Azevedo's CD Delicado (EMI). ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
