Born Amanda Lindsey Falk in Niverville, Manitoba in 1984, Amanda grew up on a wheat farm, where she was homeschooled. She began playing piano at a young age and was participating in music competitions by age six. By ten, she was singing with her father in church and at various events around town while absorbing a variety of genres from his vinyl record collection. A songwriter by her late teens, she presented her first album, Amanda Falk, on Winnipeg's Avante Records in 2004. It went on to collect the Juno Award for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year in 2006. She followed it with Beautiful in 2007 before joining the Signpost Music roster. They issued her third album, In Between the Now Then, in 2010, the same year she took a position as worship leader at Bethel Church in Redding, California and joined the Bethel Music collective.
After marrying Jacob Cook in 2011, the songwriter returned with her first solo album in five years (as Amanda Cook) in 2015. Titled Brave New World, the Bethel Music label release took home a GMA Dove Award for Inspirational Album of the Year. It not only marked her first appearance near the top of the Billboard Christian chart, but went as high as number 20 on the Billboard 200 and number 18 on Canada's album chart. Like Brave New World, her second full-length for Bethel, the intimate House on a Hill was recorded with Grammy-winning producers Jason Ingram and Paul Mabury. While it didn't enjoy the commercial success of its predecessor, the album did appear in the Top Ten of the Christian charts in the U.S. and the U.K. upon its arrival in 2019. Cook signed with Essential Worship (Provident/Sony) the following year and made her label debut with the song "Help Is on the Way" in April of 2020. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
