Biography
Comparable to the Trammps and Double Exposure, Moment of Truth was an excellent but little known East Coast quartet that combined Philadelphia soul with Philadelphia disco. The male vocal group (which consisted of Norris Harris, Ivery Caprice Bell, Michael Garrison, and Billy Jones) was consistently mindful of disco's soul roots and owed a strong debt to classic Philly soulsters like the Intruders and Harold Melvin the Blue Notes. Formed in the 1970s, Moment of Truth recorded its self-titled debut album for Salsoul in 1977. Although superb, the album was ignored by radio and wasn't a big seller by any means. However, the single Helplessly became a minor club hit. Moment of Truth broke up without ever recording a second album, and its album was out of print for many years. But thankfully Salsoul reissued Moment of Truth on CD in 1993. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi
