Biography
Jane Lynch is a multi-talented actress, comedian, and singer who first caught the public's attention with her work on Christopher Guest's improv mockumentary Best in Show, and for her role as Sue Sylvester on the popular musical comedy-drama television series Glee. Born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, Lynch spent her formative years acting at Chicago's Tony Award-winning Steppenwolf Theatre Company. She began acting in film and television in the late 1980s, eventually starring in a Frosted Flakes commercial directed by Christopher Guest. After her star turn in Guest's Best in Show in 2000, she became a fixture on the American comedy scene, landing roles in hit films like Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, The 40-Year Old Virgin, and both of Guest's post-Best in Show follow-ups, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration. Her profile rose considerably in 2009 after becoming a regular cast member on Glee, a role that relied heavily on both her comedy and musical chops. In 2016, Lynch, who had previously appeared on the soundtrack to A Mighty Wind and a couple of Glee collections, released her debut album, Swingin' Little Christmas, a set of holiday standards recorded with friends Kate Flannery (The Office), Tim Davis, and the Tony Guerrero Quintet. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
