Biography
Marty Morell had the distinction of being a member of the Bill Evans Trio longer than any other drummer: seven years. A quiet and subtle but consistently inventive player, Morell attended the Manhattan School of Music. Prior to joining Evans, Morell worked with the Al Cohn-Zoot Sims Quintet (1966), Henry Red Allen (with whom he recorded), Gary McFarland, Steve Kuhn and Gabor Szabo. Morell played, recorded and toured the world with Bill Evans and Eddie Gomez from 1968-75. He settled in Toronto after leaving Evans and has since mostly worked as a studio percussionist, occasionally reappearing on the jazz scene and working with Rob McConnell's Boss Brass from 1978-81. To date, Morell has never led a record date of his own. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
