Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Armstrong came up in the church and has been deeply involved with music since he was a youngster. A singer and songwriter, as well as a percussionist and producer, he got his professional start in the secular world, and worked with the likes of Hamilton Park and Adrian Marcel before he was sought out by veterans such as Tyrese and Johnny Gill. As a recording artist, Armstrong began to build his discography toward the end of the 2000s, operating strictly in the contemporary gospel domain. He made his full-length independent debut in 2009 with Champion, and maintained an every-three-years album release schedule with Stronger in 2012 and 52 Weeks of Summer in 2015. The Confident EP, issued in 2016, put him on Billboard's gospel albums chart for the first time. Additional EPs such as Vibes and Blsd -- the latter subsequently expanded to album-length deluxe form -- followed through 2018. Over the next few years, Armstrong issued the occasional single. He scored a gospel airplay number one hit in 2021 with "My God." ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
