Biography
Another in a parade of otherwise forgotten mid-'60s Texas-based garage bands, the Highlifes had more going for them than most, based on their two surviving sides, a dark yet melodic British Invasion-style rocker and a savage, high-energy rendition of Little Richard's Lucille, both of which can be heard on Collectable Records' Acid Visions: The Complete Collection, Vol. 2. There's also one previously unissued track, Cloak and Dagger, available on the same label's Cicadelic 60's, Vol. 2. Precisely who they were is anyone's guess, but like a lot of other bands of this era, this bunch deserved more recognition than they got, and their music ought to be heard, even 30-odd years after the fact. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
