Tropics
from Brighton, England
Biography
Tropics is an electronic indie pop project from British singer/songwriter Chris Ward. Beginning with his 2010 debut EP, Soft Vision, Ward introduced his dreamy, warmly melancholic sound that blends chillwave and electronic elements with organic piano and guitar-led pop songwriting. Working with British indie Planet Mu Records, he quickly delivered a second EP, Mouves, followed in 2011 by his debut album, Parodia Flare. The album fared well critically and led to some collaborative work remixing bands like Bear in Heaven and Little Dragon. Over the next few years, his music began to increasingly rely on a more organic approach, and after a handful of additional singles and a move to London, Ward began employing a live band to better represent his newer material. After signing with American indie Innovative Leisure in 2014, he delivered his sophomore LP, Rapture, early the following year. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
