Biography
The Super Eagles came to prominence in the 1960s as Gambia's best and most popular performers of Western style pop. With their homemade Sergeant Pepper suits proclaiming their indebtedness to the Beatles, there was little that was particularly African in the band's music. During the early 1970s, the group underwent a change of musical philosophy, began to work increasingly with local instruments and in local languages, and changed their name to Ifang Bondi, which is Mandinka for "Be Yourself." Their last and most popular album prior to this change of name was Saraba, described in the liner notes as "authentic music from the Gambia." ~ Leon Jackson, Rovi
