Montreal native Briannah Donolo began singing and playing piano at a young age, dreaming of a career in music. Her first taste of success came when she put a pop spin on the Canadian and American national anthems at a Montreal Canadiens hockey game in November 2014. A video of her performance went viral, though it would still be several more years before she found a way into the music industry. Moving to Toronto, the bilingual Donolo began using the stage name Rêve ("dream" in French) when uploading her playful Europop-influenced songs online, and built up a following on various social media networks.
She eventually landed a joint deal with Universal Music Canada, Astralwerks, and 31 East, the latter belonging to high profile production duo Banx Ranx who produced and co-wrote her first single, 2021's "Still Dancing." A few months later the bouncy, hook-laded “CTRL + ALT + DEL” reached number 38 on the Canadian Hot 100, effectively launching Rêve's career. Another Banx Ranx collaboration, "Headphones" also had some chart success in 2022 ahead of tracks like the Jonasu collaboration "All Night & Every Day" and the solo single "Tongue." ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
