Caspa & Rusko
Biography
Caspa Rusko are a dubstep duo of DJ/producers who primarily operate individually but collaborate on occasion, most notably on their high-profile mix album FabricLive.37 (2007). Comprised respectively of Gary McCann (a West London native) and Chris Mercer (a Leeds native), Caspa Rusko had only recently begun collaborating prior to mixing FabricLive.37, which is comprised primarily of self-productions and, as the first dubstep mix album in the long-running series, was somewhat of a milestone for the fledgling British style. McCann (i.e., Caspa; also known previously as Quiet Storm) is the more notable of the two, as he founded the Storming Productions label in 2004 and also founded a pair of subsidiary labels, Dub Police and Sub Soldiers -- all influential labels on the dubstep scene. Caspa made his production debut in 2006 on Dub Police with For the Kids, a three-track 12" EP, and inaugurated his label Sub Soldiers the following year with his double-12" release Ave It, Vol. 1. His duo partner, Rusko, also made his production debut in 2006 on Dub Police, releasing SNES Dub, and likewise released a double 12", Babylon, Vol. 1, on Sub Soldiers in 2007. As a duo, Caspa Rusko performed a DJ set at the 2008 Glastonbury Festival. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
