After several members left in 1984, the band's new recruits used their country influences to shift MidSouth's style. 1989's Down to Earth was nominated by the Gospel Music Association for Country Album of the Year and Shoulder to Shoulder (1992) received a Grammy nomination for Country Gospel Album of the Year.
