The Grasshoppers
Biography
Cleveland rock'n'roll quartet the Grasshoppers was formed in 1962 by singer/guitarist Dante Rossi, who upon leaving the group two years later handed the reins to frontman Benny Orzechowski. In early 1965 the Grasshoppers signed to the local Sunburst label to issue their debut single Mod Rocks, which became a major regional hit and was later licensed for national distribution by Warner Bros.; however, after releasing the follow-up ballad Pink Champaign (and Red Roses), the group disbanded before the year was out. Orzechowski later shortened his name to Ben Orr and rose to international success as a member of New Wave hitmakers the Cars. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
