Mazie was born Grace Christian in Albany, Georgia, and relocated with her family to the Baltimore area early in life. Growing up she studied classical and jazz vocals, eventually writing songs of her own as a teenager and recording them with neighbor and Remi Wolf collaborator Elie Rizk. Her debut single as Mazie was 2020's "No Friends," a swirling wash of psychedelic, Beatlesque orchestral pop, sound effects, self-depreciating lyrics, and jumpy trap hi-hats that was over in less than two minutes. The song was a viral success and quickly led to a contract with Virgin Records. Subsequent singles followed, including the massively popular "dumb dumb" in 2021. In August 2021, Mazie released her first EP, The Rainbow Cassette, which collected the majority of her previously released material in one place and filled it out with some extra tracks. Over the next two years, Mazie appeared as a guest on a song with Steve Aoki and Regard, and issued more singles of her own such as 2022's "Girls Just Wanna Have Sex" and 2023's "It's Not Me (It's U)." ~ TiVo Staff, Rovi
