Chavez began playing with singer and songwriter Lara Price when she was 18 and remained in her band for eight years, touring and collaborating with other blues musicians during her tenure. Chavez also formed her own band and began playing the international blues circuit, sharing stages with everyone from Bob Margolin to Rene Solis.
In late 2008, singer and songwriter Candye Kane, in search of a permanent lead guitarist, asked Sue Foley who she might recommend. Without hesitation, Foley endorsed Chavez. Kane so respected the guitarist's opinion, she hired Chavez without hearing or meeting her.
Chavez made her first appearance with Kane on 2009's acclaimed Superhero recording, as lead guitarist and co-producer. The pair became inseparable collaborators, and Chavez became the musical director for Kane's band for 2011's applauded album Sister Vagabond. The album cover read "featuring Laura Chavez," as did 2013's highly anticipated Come Out Swingin'. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
