Biography
Robert Crouch is an artist, musician, and curator based in Los Angeles whose work encompasses performance, sculpture, installations, and recordings. His music ranges from glacial, cloudlike drones to denser, heavier textures, often blending field recordings with synthesizers and digital processing. As a director or associate director of organizations such as VOLUME and LACE, he has worked with artists such as William Basinski, Richard Chartier, Tim Hecker, Steve Roden, Christopher Willits, and many others. He has released experimental techno on the Untitled After label as a solo artist, as one half of the duo Land Sound (with Marc Kate), and in collaboration with Morgan Packard. His debut full-length, An Occupied Space, appeared on Dragon's Eye in 2011. Fata Morgana, a collaboration with Yann Novak (owner of Dragon's Eye), was commissioned by the Pasadena Arts Council for the 2011 AxS Festival, and released on CD by Japan's Murmur Records in 2012. Organs, an album based on the sounds of a broken church organ, was issued by Dragon's Eye in 2015. This was followed by A Gradual Accumulation of Ideas Becomes Truth, issued by Chartier's Line imprint in 2016. The album utilized sounds sourced from modular synthesizers, but was much different from most albums of that nature. Sublunar, Crouch's first album for the U.K. experimental music institution Touch, was released in 2017. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
