Os Carioquinhas
Biography
Os Carioquinhas was the first group of the remarkable violonista (acoustic guitar player) Rafael Rabello. Formed by him when he was 14, the group was born in the choro revival that took Brazil in the '70s, and became distinguished by its relaxed and swinging feel. The group had Rabello at the seven-string violão, Maurício Carrilho at the violão, Luciana Rabello (Rabello's sister) at the cavaquinho, Celso Silva at the clarinet, Paulinho do Bandolim at the mandolin, and Mário at the percussion. Os Carioquinhas recorded for Som Livre. Soon after their joining in 1977, the excellent LP Os Carioquinhas no Choro was released. The album included Alcyr Pires Vermelho's choro Gadu Namorando, which was the theme for a major news program on TV Globo. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
