Jorge Cabeleira
Biography
After the typical start of a garage band (a bunch of teenage friends playing just for kicks), the mangue beat band Jorge Cabeleira e o Dia em que Seremos Todos Inúteis had a major break at the Recife Rock Show Festival with their mix of baião and rock roll. Known at the time as Os Mordomos, they had two songs to register in the festival that only accepted one song per band. So they invented another name for the band and enrolled twice. As a result, they won second and third place at the festival and the substitute denomination ended up remaining as the "official" one.
The good result at the Recife Rock Show brought Jorge Cabeleira an invitation to play at the second edition of the Abril Pro Rock Festival, soon followed by other festivals. Signing with Sony Music in 1993, they launched their first CD two years after that. Carolina received a good airing throughout the country, with a music video on MTV Brazil, but the album sold only 10,000 copies, culminating with the dismissal of the band by the record company. After a period of ostracism, the group replaced drummer Davi (who left music and is devoting himself to law school) for Joaquim. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
