Sami Baha
from Istanbul, Turkey
Biography
A Turkish beatmaker inspired by Dirty South hip-hop producers like DJ Screw, Sami Baha crafts slow, moody tracks with miles-deep bass and explosive samples. Baha was born in Istanbul, and his music is heavily informed by the popular Turkish music (or Arabesk) that he grew up with, even if it more closely resembles a spaced-out instrumental take on Southern rap. He contributed tracks to online Turkish hip-hop compilations during the early 2010s, and after receiving attention from experimental grime producers like Why Be and M.E.S.H., he moved to London in 2015. Baha made guest appearances on Rinse FM and NTS Radio, and his debut EP Mavericks was issued by Planet Mu in April of 2016. Two years later, the label released Baha's first full-length, Free for All, which included guest appearances from DJ Nate and Yung Lean. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
