A native of North London's Tottenham neighborhood, Josey Rebelle started to DJ when she was 13, inspired by U.K. pirate radio as well as Caribbean soundsystem culture. She briefly worked at Sony Music before being hired by drum'n'bass label Valve Recordings, run by Lemon D and Dillinja. After helping organize releases and shows for three years, Rebelle worked in TV production and advertising before gradually getting back into DJing. In 2010, she became a resident at legendary London club Plastic People, and appeared on the very first broadcast by online platform Boiler Room. She started broadcasting on Rinse FM in 2011, and soon became one of the dance station's most popular hosts.
Following regular appearances at London clubs like Fabric and Cable, Rebelle's international gigs increased in 2015, and her sets at festivals such as Dimensions and Primavera Sound were met with acclaim. She delivered well-received podcast mixes for Discwoman, FACT, Resident Advisor, and others, and regularly sold out all-night gigs at the Pickle Factory when she became a resident DJ at the London club in 2018. Affirming her status as one of the world's most renowned DJs, her 2019 Essential Mix was named the long-running BBC Radio 1 program's best mix of the year. In 2020, Beats in Space released Rebelle's first mix CD, Josey in Space. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
