Biography
Best known as the longtime lead guitarist for the 1980s glam pop-metal band Cinderella, LaBar was born Jeffrey Philip LaBar on March 18, 1963 in Darby, Pennsylvania. He joined Cinderella when original guitarist Michael Smerick (also known as Michael Kelly Smith) left in 1985, and remained the group's lead guitarist through its subsequent configurations and revivals through the first decade of the 21st century, as well as working with side projects like Naked Beggars and Cheap Thrill. He released his first solo album, One for the Road, in 2014, in which he played all the instruments himself except for drums, and handled all the songwriting and singing. The results were not too far from a Cinderella album, consisting of hard rock/pop songs done with a touch of the blues, and with an acoustic ballad or two for pacing. Jeff LaBar died on July 14, 2021 at the age of 58. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
