Biography
A well-traveled and prolific guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, Ken Nicol won his first bit of fame in the seventies, in the band he formed with Pete Marsh called Nicol Marsh's Easy Street. The band had moderate success, recording a number of albums, beginning with 1974's Easy Street, and winding down with 1989's Hollywood This, Hollywood That. As one could gleam from the title of the duo's last full-length, Nicol had eventually worked his way to the new world, and became a singer songwriter in the heart of the industry -- Hollywood, California. After the duo split, Nicol continued to perform and work as a solo artist, in addition to lead vocal duties in the band Versailles. England (Nicol was born in Preston) called, however, and Nicol left the palm trees and sunshine for the rustic backdrop of England to continue his solo pursuits. Beginning in 1990, Nicol released a number of solo records -- that year's Tidings, 1991's Across the Spectrum, Living In A Spanish Town (1993), 2 Frets From the Blues (1995), Clean Feet, No Shoes (1998), The Bridge (2001), and 2007's Thirteen Reasons. It was during this time that Nicol added to his solo work by joining the group the Albion Band -- in 1997 -- and toured the world with them. In 2001, Nicol left his post as Albion Band guitarist, but maintained his busy solo schedule, touring and recording on a regular basis. Nicol would eventually go on to join seminal English folk-rock group Steeleye Span, and -- over the course of his career -- kept busy as a regular session player, contributing guitar work to a number of different artists' works, including Al Stewart, Chris While, Julie Matthews, and Ashley Hutchings. ~ Chris True, Rovi
