Biography
Composer Steve Mazzaro started out writing music for video game soundtracks before segueing into film scoring by his mid-twenties. A protégé of Hans Zimmer and member of the Remote Control Productions stable, he was one of the Magnificent Six credited on 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and he co-wrote the score for 2017's The Boss Baby with Zimmer.

A native of Mentor, Ohio, Mazzaro began writing music at the age of 13, and moved to Los Angeles at 18 with the aim of becoming a professional film scorer. He spent his first few years there composing music for video games and the occasional film short before some work for London-based Silva Screen Productions brought him to the attention of Hans Zimmer. Mazzaro accepted a position as staff composer with Zimmer's Remote Control Productions, launching pad for many a successful career in film scoring. Numerous credits for additional music and programming followed, including work on independent films such as Jack Rio (2008) and The Mercy Man (2009), and the video games Assassin's Creed: Revelations (2011) and Assassin's Creed III (2012), before he contributed to big-budget studio films like The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Man of Steel (2013). Mazzaro's first solo credit as main composer came in 2012 with the Sylvester Stallone vehicle Bullet to the Head. Part orchestral and part instrumental blues-rock, it received a soundtrack release from Sony Classical.

In 2014, Mazzaro was one of Hans Zimmer the Magnificent Six responsible for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). The group also included Pharrell Williams, Junkie XL, Johnny Marr, Mike Einziger of Incubus, and fellow film/TV/video game composer Andrew Kawczynski. In early 2016, Mazzaro played guitar and keyboards on Zimmer's first film-music tour. He also helped to produce and arrange the show, which visited 38 cities in Europe. In the meantime, he continued to provide additional music for scores including Zimmer and Junkie XL's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Rupert Gregson-Williams' Hacksaw Ridge (2016), and Geoff Zanelli's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). He again teamed with Zimmer, receiving co-credit on the animated film The Boss Baby (2017). ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
