Biography
Born Cassie Grzymkowski, this New Jersey-born, Brooklyn-based songwriter took the stage name Cassie Ramone around the time she co-founded Brooklyn noise pop trio Vivian Girls in 2007. As guitarist/vocalist for the band, Ramone wrote a good deal of the band's material and was a constant member through their three albums and countless tours that took them all over the world before they broke up in 2014. Things had quieted down considerably for Vivian Girls in the two years before they announced their breakup. Ramone had already started a new band called the Babies with Woods member Kevin Morby, and Vivian Girls bassist Katy Goodman had branched out into several different projects, most notably a solo project called La Sera. The band played a handful of farewell shows early in 2014 but Ramone's solo debut, The Time Has Come, was already in the works. The album was a collection of spare, home-recorded indie folk that featured cameos on several tracks from Ariel Pink on bass. The Time Has Come saw release in the fall of 2014 on indie label Loglady. In late 2015, she somewhat unexpectedly followed up with a Christmas LP. Released by Burger Records, Christmas in Reno offered a reverb-heavy, lo-fi take on ten Christmas classics. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
