Biography
Of the talented Teagarden brood, drummer Clois Cubby Teagarden is the least known, enjoyed the shortest music career, but seems to be the only of the siblings to have been granted a professional nickname, albeit one that sounds like a description of a scout meeting held in a polite outdoor setting. Like his sister, pianist Norma Teagarden, the drummer worked frequently with his brother, star classic jazz trombonist and vocalist Jack Teagarden, a relationship that dominates much of the "Cub" or "Cubby" discography.

Mother Helen Teagarden, a ragtime pianist, taught all the children musical skills. Another brother, Charlie Teagarden, was a professional trumpeter. 1939 was an important year for the drummer in terms of recording, with some discographers theorizing that this timekeeper's entire recording career took place during that year. At any rate he provides fine drumming on hit records of Jack Teagarden sides including a famous version of the Sheik of Araby. The drummer continued pounding out beats for his brother into the early '40s, subsequently running his own band as well as performing with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra. Clois Teagarden said goodbye to the music business in 1948 and went to work for the telephone company in Long Beach, California. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
