Mother Helen Teagarden, a ragtime pianist, taught all the children musical skills. Another brother, Charlie Teagarden, was a professional trumpeter. 1939 was an important year for the drummer in terms of recording, with some discographers theorizing that this timekeeper's entire recording career took place during that year. At any rate he provides fine drumming on hit records of Jack Teagarden sides including a famous version of the Sheik of Araby. The drummer continued pounding out beats for his brother into the early '40s, subsequently running his own band as well as performing with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra. Clois Teagarden said goodbye to the music business in 1948 and went to work for the telephone company in Long Beach, California. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
