Yung Gud was born Carl-Mikael Göran Berlander in 1995. He grew up in Stockholm and became enthralled with trance, ambient, and psychedelic music at a young age. By age 12 he was working on his own tracks, and not too far into his high school career he dropped out to focus on music. He met Yung Lean in the early 2010s through mutual friends, and they collaborated on the track "Oreomilkshake" in 2012. Over the next several years, his work with Yung Lean caught on with mixtapes like 2013's Unknown Death 2002 and 2014's studio album Unknown Memory. In 2014, Gud also released his solo debut, the four-song EP Beautiful, Wonderful.
During a stint of international touring, he got wrapped up in excessive substance abuse and decided to return to Sweden to collect himself. He worked on remixes for artists such as Tinashe, producer Jacques Greene, and rapper Meek Mill, as well as working in a producer role on tracks for Halsey, Prada Mane, and Deniro Farrar. In 2016, he released a new solo track, the tumbling and dark "Body Horror." Around this point he had dropped the "Yung" from his name and was working exclusively as Gud. Over the next few years, he leaked the occasional new track or remix online, including slowed-down re-imaginations of Aaliyah and YEMI tracks. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
