Biography
Born into the biker scene of western Massachusetts, Spookyhorse was at first a legitimate reaction to the bikercore culture that surrounded them. Formed by three members of a motorcycle gang of the same name, their music sounded just as one could expect: loud, raucous, and reeking of classic rock sensibilities. As one would expect, Spookyhorse drew most of their sound from other, more famous bikercore acts, such as Ted Nugent or the Impalers. But, as is the case with most artists, their sound evolved over the course of time, causing them eventually to betray these influences entirely. With the release of their sophomore record, they had completely ditched their tried-and true two-guitar approach, taking bands such as Swans and local friends Sonic Youth (Thurston Moore lived in nearby Northampton, MA) as their primary influence. ~ Nicole Gagne, Rovi
