The story of the Last Detail began a long time before the two principals involved even met. Zannad was a big fan of A Girl Called Eddy's self-titled album from 2004, and Moran bought the first Fugu record at her local record shop when it first came out in 2000. At the time, both artists were making lush and romantic pop, though Moran's focus tilted more toward songcraft and Zannad was more interested in sound. Fast forward many years, a gap during which each artist performed and recorded sporadically, and Moran and Zannad finally met and decided to work together in 2014.
After some sessions of writing and recording in London and Paris, where they traded ideas back and forth, they sent some songs to Elefant Records. The label loved the results and asked for a full album. With the help of guitarist Olivier Marguerit, bassist Didier Perrin, Xavier Boyer of Tahiti 80 (at whose studio much of the album was recorded), and a large cast of musicians, the duo concocted a lush chamber pop album that was a throwback to their early-2000s salad days without sounding like a mere nostalgia trip. The pair split the songwriting and lead vocals, while collaborating on quite a few songs as well. The self-titled album was released by Elefant in late 2018 and featured a cover designed by Julian House, who did work for Stereolab and Broadcast. ~ Tim Sendra, Rovi
