Biography
The son of influential Irish musician, composer, choirmaster, and bandleader, Sean Ó Riada, Peadar Ó Riada has continued to follow in his father's footsteps. While his roots remain in the musical traditions of Ireland, Ó Riada has incorporated classical, Eastern, and European avant-garde influences. In addition to recording as a soloist, Ó Riada has directed the Chor Cuil Aodha since his father's death in 1971. His production company, Dord, is preparing a 12-part series, Ceol Na D'Talun (Song of the Earth), focusing on the evolution of Irish music. Ó Riada has produced recordings by Iarla O'Lionaid and Anuna. According to Irish poet Thomas Kinsella, It is not often that a single person, however gifted, can alter the character of a nation's culture. Ó Riada has managed to do this. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
