Damiana is a collaboration between Whitney Johnson and Natalie Chami, two mainstays of Chicago's experimental music scene. Like the music produced by their respective solo projects, Matchess and TALsounds, Damiana's 2021 debut Vines is a blend of hypnotic rhythms, free-flowing improvisation, and emotional songwriting.

Johnson and Chami met in the early 2010s, and have performed at numerous live events together. They formed the duo Damiana, creating spontaneous pieces blending Johnson's viola, Chami's electronics, and both artists' vocal harmonies, drifting from ethereal melodies to sharp tonal clashes. Developing the project's sound through years of performances and home-recording sessions, Damiana released their debut LP, Vines, on Hausu Mountain in 2021. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
