Biography
Successful arranger/conductor Lírio Panicali worked for many top artists, especially Cauby Peixoto, Tito Madi, and Orquestra Zacarias. With Lamartine Babo, he wrote the fox Saias Curtas around 1922. He was one of the founders (in 1950) and the artistic director of the Sinter recording company, where he recorded his first LP in 1950, Orquestra Melódica de Lírio Panicali, also recording many Carnival hits for that company. He also had success as writer of themes for the soap operas of Rádio Nacional, like the valses Ternura (with Amaral Gurgel), Magia (with Raimundo Lopes), and Encantamento. He wrote for the cinema, including soundtracks for the films #Aves Sem Ninhos (1939), #Moleque Tião (1943), #Este Mundo É Um Pandeiro (1947), #Dupla do Baralho (1953), and #Nem Sansão Nem Dalila (1954). In 1922, he was conductor and pianist of the Companhia Negra de Revista. He worked at Rádio São Paulo (São Paulo) before moving to Rádio Nacional (Rio de Janeiro) in 1938, where he worked with many top artists, mainly Almirante. In that year, he organized the Orquestra Melódica Lírio Panicali. Together with Paulo Roberto, he created the famous show Lira do Xopotó at the Rádio Nacional, dedicated to upcountry bands.
