Lynwood Jones
Biography
Lynwood Jones is a saxophonist and keyboardist who, like the band he was in, made quite an impression on the crowd that sought out original funk during the mid-'70s at North Carolina venues such as the Cosmos Club in Greensboro or the Dungeon in Asheville. Jones was a member of Trussel, originally formed by trumpeter Bill McGee and drummer Ron Smith at Virginia State College in 1973.
On recordings, the groups career seems to start circa 1978 when they were called on to back up a 15-year-old singer who turned out to be the exceptionally talented Evelyn Champagne King. Her records were hits and Jones was soon on the road backing her along with McGee and Hannon Lane, also a multi-instrumentalist on saxophone, trombone, and keyboards. This lineup was eventually co-produced on several 1980 recording sessions by trombonist Fred Wesley. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
