Biography
Schmitt studied with Massenet and Fauré at the Paris Conservatoire. He is remembered for uniting German and French traditions in his compositions as is evident in his ballet La tragédie de Salomé and in his Piano Quintet of 1908. His work includes most genres except opera. Schmitt served as director of the Lyons Conservatory and also worked as a critic. ~ Lynn Vought, Rovi
