George Morel
Biography
One of the central figures in the early-'90s New York garage/house scene centered on the Strictly Rhythm label and its Puerto Rican roots, vocalist George Morel worked for the label and produced several of Strictly Rhythm's most successful tracks. Born in New York, Morel released a series of EPs called Morel's Grooves that began in 1992 and continued over the years, each 12" showcasing his Latin house sound and being quite popular and influential. Several other 12"s continued, most of which are compiled on his 1996 best-of collection, The Best of Morel's Grooves. Morel later moved away from Strictly Rhythm, most notably scoring another huge anthem with True (The Faggot Is You), released by Deep Dish's Yoshitoshi label and championed by the popular DJ duo. In the early 2000s, Morel became more closely aligned with Deep Dish, helping them engineer their Global Underground: Moscow album, for example, and appearing on most of the duo's mix albums. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
