Biography
Italian tastes were indicative of the performance and compositional style of Fritz. His violin playing was generally well-recieved although the definitive Italian influence presented a distraction for his audience. Teaching was his main vocation but he played on occasion in the home of Voltaire as well as in Paris. Virtuostic in playing, Fritz's legacy was left not only through his students but in his opus 1-6 for the violin (predominantly sonatas). Each opus has a unique set of characteristics including three movements, extravagent ornamentation, requisite skills for the performer, lucid structures, and galant pathos. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
