Michael Vlatkovitch
Biography
A very adventurous trombonist with a wild sense of humor, Michael Vlatkovich has mostly worked in the L.A. jazz underground since the early '80s. He began playing trombone while in the third grade and after high school he was awarded a music scholarship to the St. Louis Institute of Music. He also studied at North Texas State. Vlatkovich moved to the Los Angeles area in 1973. He has since worked in the studios and backed up Peggy Lee and Mel Torme among others but much more significant is his work on his own projects and with Vinny Golia. In addition to appearing on some of the records put out by Golia's label, Nine Winds, and working with Bobby Bradford, Gerry Hemingway, Jack Walrath and other like-minded free spirits, Michael Vltakovich has since 1981 had his own record company, Thank You, to document his eccentric and colorful ideas. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
